NOSA MEMBERSHIP

Membership explained!

(A bit of a read, but details you’ll need to know)

 1) The NOSA (Family) Membership at $430 for the season* grants access to the club and its facilities ($400 if paid before 1 May). This includes the clubhouse, compound, and club events such as Thursday night races. This is the entry level membership. Once a member, there is an option to moor your boat in the compound or join our Boat-Share program.
A family membership applies to life partners and their dependent children, living at the same address, and gives one of the adults a vote at NOSA general meetings.

2) Should you own your own sailboat, wind-surfer or kite-surfer, you can rent a moorage spot** provided there is space available. Due to the nature of the compound, we do not allow boats larger than dinghies or those that cannot be removed from the lake by hand or by use of the club winch. Please check with us before purchasing moorage for your boat in the compound, to ensure we have space for you. A waitlist will be created should all spots be taken.

The rate varies in relation to the dimensions of the boat and whether it is a multihull or mono-hull. Moorage is for boats that are fully assembled and sailed regularly throughout the season. Should the boat not be sailed during the season, NOSA reserves the right to ask the member to remove the boat from the premises to make room for active members. In the event that your boat requires serious maintenance, NOSA may ask you to remove your boat while repairs take place.

3) Once a member, you can also opt to register for Boat-Share. This program runs during the sailing season* and allows members to borrow club boats for personal use - which makes it a great alternative for those who do not own a boat. There is a one-time sign-up fee of $110 to join, and then you can use the boats whenever you like! Please note that the boats in the program are often shared with the Learn to Sail courses, and therefore sailing classes have priority. Should you wish to borrow a boat when a class is running, give us a call to ensure a boat is available for you. There is a Boat-Share Logbook by the clubhouse door that members are required to fill out when borrowing a boat.

A minimum of CanSail 2 is required to skipper. Those with CanSail 1 may only crew, or skipper under direct supervision of an instructor. Please see the Boat Share page for more information on boats in the program, CanSail requirements, and supervision guidelines for youth.

4) NOSA Bucks: Members can earn up to $100 return on a fully paid membership at the end of the season by volunteering for various qualifying club chores, projects or activities during that season.

If you have any questions regarding membership, please drop by the office or give us a call
at 250-260-4255 or e-mail admin@vernonsailing.com.

* membership runs from 1 May of the year until 30 April of the following calendar year, though the season is the time when the club is open, usually from mid April spring clean-up until fall clean-up in mid October.

** Member-owned boats that are moored at NOSA must either have their moorage paid for in full before 1 May or be removed from the club prior to that date.
